It Is Important to Watch What You Say (Part I)

Harsh words cut deep.

I have heard arguments in which the words said made the hair on the back of my neck rise. A mom was saying things to her children in a store which frightened a little girl to start crying. They were only words. A husband was talking stuff to his wife in a film that broke her heart.

Those words were the impact the movie wanted you to have. But my heart and head knew that this occurs every day in real life. People hurt people with the words coming out of their mouths more than a punch. Both things occur, but too many folk’s hearts are hardened, not understanding how cruel their words are. Let us go through God’s Word and see what He has to say.

Psalm 19:14
Let the words from my lips, and the thoughts from my heart, be acceptable in Your sight…

Now think, if my words can be pleasant then can they be unpleasant? Yes, they can. So, do we treat folks different than Yahweh? No! We are to “love our neighbor as ourselves.” The family is closer than a neighbor.

Before going any further, you should realize this topic is massive and this article only touches the surface of it. If you have a Bible concordance or an excellent Bible program on your computer, research the following words: lips, mouth, tongue, voice, and language. You will be highly astonished.

Psalm 34:13
Then stop yourself from talking evil and nasty as well as from telling untruths about others.

Psalm 37:30
The words of people who possess goodness and truth are wise, and they are consistently unbiased.

Psalm 57:4
I am in the midst of lions; I lie among ravenous beasts—men whose teeth are spears and arrows, whose tongues are sharp swords.
