The Secret to Self-Improvement

What are the keys to self-improvement?

1. Inspiration

Inspiration is vital to keeping motivated and re-inventing oneself. If you have no interest in your career, your inspiration level will never improve and you won’t be able to maintain interest for very long.

Take a good look at your motivation level. Are you enthusiastic about going to work or is it out of obligation? You would be surprised at the many people who pick a career that looks great on paper, but in truth, doesn’t interest them one bit.

These individuals will become tired and uninterested fast because they have no motivation or passion to maintain them during the hard times they will come across.

If you do not like your work, then consider how you can re-focus your career/job to better match your needs. Or think about making a complete change. Without inspiration, you won’t be motivated to even try self-improvement.

2. Goals

Short and long-term goal setting is critical for everyone. If you don’t set goals, you won’t have any definite purpose on which road of self-improvement to take.

How can you ever be motivated if you aren’t sure about the direction of your career?

Take time and write down your goals. A personal career plan may sound intimidating, but it’s just a list of goals, strategies, timeline, and a budget. Write your own career plan and update it at least once a year.

You should include small goals that can be achieved in a matter of hours, days or weeks. The more ambitious big goals may take years to complete. Keep coming back to your career/personal plan during the year.

But can a career/personal plan really assist in inspiring you? Absolutely! Written goals will give you encouragement to get to where you want to be in life. It will also free you from having to reinvent your goals all the time.
